Composite Coatings for Wood & Concrete

Composite Coatings for Wood

Using UDF-21, a revolutionary new DIY coating, checks and splits in wood are filled, and splinters and nails are locked down with this durable coating. The expansion and contraction cycle that destroys wood is completely shut down, literally “freezing your deck in time”. This coating is comfortable on bare feet, yet skid-resistant. You determine the color you want by adding a gallon of your favorite latex paint color. Roll or brush. Tools clean with water!udf-21-going-down-2
21POLYPLUS was designed to protect marine piling and bulkheads from harmful marine borer attack, while also encapsulating CCA, the harmful wood preservative that can leach into sensitive marine habitats! It works exactly like UDF-21, but it only requires 1/2 gallon of paint additive.

Benifites  of  UDF-21:

  • Is water-based and contain no solvents.  It is friendly to the environment and the user.
  • Encapsulates the wood preservatives used to treat lumber.
  • Can be applied by anyone.  UDF-21 doesn’t require a professional applicator.
  • Is easy to apply and easy to work with.
  • Is high-build and quick-setting.
  • Is applied with average paint equipment (brush & roller) and the tools clean up with water.
  • Has an unlimited color range.  You choose the color you want simply by adding paint to the kit.
  • Is designed to outlast any other sealer, stain, or coating on the market.
  • Actually resurfaces the deck, locking down splinters and nails.
  • Look great for years.
  • Can be cleaned with soap and water.
  • Has a skid-resistant additive, but still feel great on bare feet.
  • Is scuff-resistant.
  • Is stain-resistant.
  • Is fire-resistant.
  • Is easily repaired if damaged.
  • Can be re-coated at any time if you choose.

When we sat down to develop UDF-21, we made a wish list of F&Bs that we thought were important in a coating.  Today,  with these goals achieved, UDF-21 is the most user-friendly on the market and superior when compared to other options.

Based on our wish list, UDF-21:

    • Is water-based and contain no solvents.  It is friendly to the environment and the user.
    • Encapsulates the wood preservatives used to treat lumber.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get the answers to many common questions about UDF-21 and 21POLYPLUS.

  1. How long have these coatings been in service? The chemistry “backbone” used in both the UDF-21 and 21POLYPLUS is over thirty years old.  Tens of thousands of square feet of various substrates have been protected with some variation of of this decades-old chemistry.  We’ve carefully pre-measured the system components to fit into a simple-to-use DIY package that anyone can understand and use.
  2. Are these coatings harmful to the environment? These coatings are no more harmful to you or the environment than a standard can of latex paint.  They contain zero VOC’s, which are solvents that are used to cure other types of coatings.  These water-based coatings are environmentally-friendly and can be applied on-site following minimal prep guidelines.
  3. If 21POLYPLUS is water-based, why isn’t it water-soluble? What keeps it from breaking down in water? 21POLYPLUS incorporates proprietary new advances in organic chemistry that prevents reversion once the coating is cured.  It is a true one-of-a-kind.
  4. How do you apply these coatings? The coatings can be brushed or rolled onto the substrate.  For severely damaged or checked wood, use a 1″ nap roller or a 4″ brush for the first coat, filling in checks and covering nails.  Once this is done, using a 3/8″ roller, apply top coat.  To obtain a more skid-resistant surface, substitute a sponge roller for the 3/8″nap roller.
  5. What is the coverage per kit? A kit of UDF-21 should protect up to 250 square feet depending on the condition of the wood and the application technique.  A kit of 21POLYPLUS should protect up to 180 square feet depending on the same variables. A kit of UCF-30 will cover approximately 560 square feet depending on porosity and application technique.
  6. If the coating is ever damaged, can it be repaired? Yes.  Simply clean the damaged area and repair using the same application technique that was used in the original installation.
  7. Do the coatings have a shelf life? Yes.  UDF-21  and UCF-30 should last at least 14 days once the kit has been activated.  21POLYPLUS has a shorter shelf life of approximately 7 days.
  8. How long does it take for the coatings to cure? These coatings cure within minutes – especially on sunny days where the temperature climbs above 75 F.  Do not apply the coating in temperatures over 90F.  If your mix begins to “skin over”, mixing a very small amount of water into the kit will help extend the drying time and allow the coating to level out on the substrate.  However, if you do this, be careful.  Adding too much water will result in dilution of the paint and WILL effect the color.
